About the Facility
Wilson Field serves as the home of Washington and Lee University's football, men's lacrosse and track & field programs. Named in honor of William L. Wilson, the university's 13th president, the facility has stood at the heart of W&L athletics for more than a century. Following a comprehensive $15.5 million renovation and reconstruction project completed in 2008, Wilson Field emerged as one of the premier multi-sport venues in NCAA Division III.
Located in the center of campus, the stadium features seating for approximately 4,000 spectators, a spacious press box, modern sound system, stadium lighting and a welcoming game-day atmosphere. The press box includes a covered filming deck, broadcasting facilities, coaches' areas and the McLaughlin Suite, which provides hospitality space for university guests and supporters. The adjacent Gator Bowl Plaza serves as a gathering space for fans and includes convenient concession and restroom facilities.
Wilson Field underwent another major round of enhancements in 2025. A new Daktronics video board, made possible through a gift from an anonymous donor honoring the Class of 1974, now anchors the north end of the stadium and enhances the fan experience with custom graphics, live video and game information. The facility also received a new FieldTurf FTVTP-1 CORE playing surface, providing football and men's lacrosse student-athletes with one of the most advanced synthetic surfaces available. In addition, Beynon Sports installed a BSS 1000 13mm full-pour track surface and drainage system, further elevating the experience for W&L's track & field competitors.
Beneath the stadium seating are locker rooms, athletic training facilities, equipment storage areas and team meeting spaces equipped with large-format video displays for film study and game preparation. Protective netting surrounds the field to support simultaneous use by multiple programs and maximize training opportunities.
Combining modern amenities, recent investments and a rich history of competition, Wilson Field remains the centerpiece of Washington and Lee Athletics and a championship-caliber home for Generals student-athletes.
