About the Facility

Facility Hours

The Washington and Lee University Natatorium, opened in 2017, is a cutting-edge, 44,000-square-foot aquatic center built for high-performance training and competition. Located in between the village housing and the law school, this $22.4 million facility is the heart of W&L’s swimming programs and offers extensive recreational opportunities.

The centerpiece is a 40-meter stretch pool with eight 9-foot-wide competition lanes, roll-out gutters, and adjustable starting wedges, creating an elite environment for swimmers. The UV-treated water system minimizes chlorine use, and the advanced filtration system recycles the pool’s 589,000 gallons every four hours for pristine conditions.

Designed for versatility, the pool can be split into two zones with a bulkhead, providing a dedicated competition area and a separate section for warm-up and cool-down. Sixteen 25-yard training lanes ensure ample space for athletes to hone their skills.

Beyond the pool, the Natatorium features top-tier amenities including a wet classroom with four-camera underwater stroke analysis, touchscreen technology, and a 60-inch screen for instant feedback. Athletes benefit from on-site athletic training rooms and private team locker rooms with 38 spacious lockers.

The second floor offers a team lounge with pool views, perfect for bonding and recruiting, along with a dry land training area equipped with TRX for strength and conditioning. The facility also boasts seating for 462 spectators, providing an electric atmosphere for competitions.

From elite training spaces to state-of-the-art technology, the W&L Natatorium sets the standard for collegiate swimming and diving, offering an exceptional experience for student-athletes and their families.
