ST. DAVID'S, Pa. — Sophomore outside hitter Simon Bliss totaled 18 kills to lead 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins past the Washington and Lee volleyball team, 3-1, on Saturday in a neutral-site contest at Eastern.
The Blue Jays (9-0) won the first two sets, 25-20 and 27-25. The Generals (5-7) answered with a 25-21 victory in the third, but Johns Hopkins claimed the match by winning the fourth, 25-18.
First-year outside hitter Val Sokolow (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) totaled 11 kills to lead the Generals. Junior outside hitter Ashleigh Meade (Bristow, Va./Patriot) tallied nine kills. Senior outside hitter Elly Cosgrove (Wilmington, N.C./John T. Hoggard) had 18 digs and three service aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Kiera Borthwick (Northville, Mich./Northville) contributed four kills on 12 attempts (.333 hitting percentage), 14 digs and three blocks. Junior setter Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) had 20 assists, two aces and eight digs.
Bliss added three digs and three blocks to her 18 kills. First-year middle blocker Eleni Panagopoulos had 10 kills on a .476 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Louisa Kishton notched a double-double with 11 kills and a match-high 25 digs.
The Generals return to action at Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
