VaSID Announces All-State Women's Golf Honors

ASHLAND, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2019 College Division All-State Women's Golf Team on Friday and Washington and Lee was well represented.

Head Coach Pete Gyscek was selected as the VaSID Coach of the Year, while junior Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) and sophomores Laurie Jones (Atlanta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) and Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, S.C. / Travelers Rest) all earned VaSID First Team All-State accolades.

Foultz adds the honor to a 2019 list that already includes First Team All-ODAC laurels.  She played all 19 rounds during the season, posting a 79.79 scoring average.  Foultz placed third at the ODAC Championship and tied for 47th at the NCAA Division III Championship.  She completed the year ranked 92nd in the Golfstat Division III rankings.

Jones was named the 2019 ODAC Player of the Year and is a two-time First Team All-ODAC honoree.  She also played all 19 rounds and tallied a team-best 77.63 stroke average.  She had five Top 10 finishes during the year, including winning the ODAC Championship in a playoff.  Jones tied for 28th at the NCAA Division III Championship and was ranked 31st in the Golfstat Division III rankings.

Townsend garnered First Team All-ODAC honors and was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2019.  She played 17 rounds this year and posted a 78.06 scoring average.  Townsend had three Top 10 finishes, claiming the Callaway Gardens Collegiate and tying for first in the ODAC Championship before falling in a playoff.  She added a tie for 47th at the NCAA Division III Championship and was ranked 41st in the Golfstat Division III rankings.

Gyscek led the Generals to the 2019 ODAC title, winning the crown by a whopping 78 strokes.  W&L went on to post a program-best finish at the NCAA Division III Championship, placing in a tie for 11th overall.  He was also honored as the ODAC Coach of the Year.
