LEXINGTON, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team is set to face Marymount (Va.) in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at home, while also hosting Scranton and Carnegie Mellon in first round action.
W&L & MARYMOUNT – HOW THEY GOT HERE:
The Generals are fresh off winning their sixth overall and second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship this past Saturday and enter the weekend with an overall record of 16-2-2. It will be W&L's fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and second consecutive season hosting an opening-weekend pod. The Generals come into tournament play on a 14-game unbeaten streak, with wins in 12 of those games.
The Saints earned the Atlantic East Conference's automatic bid into this year's championship field through a 4-0 victory over Gwynedd Mercy in the conference title game on Saturday. It marked the program's second AEC title, both of which have come over the last three seasons. The Saints enter their second-ever NCAA Tournament on a four-game winning streak, with an 18-0 goal difference in that time.
W&L and Marymount have played four times in their programs' histories, but not since October 1, 2006. The Generals hold a 3-1 all-time series record and have won each of the last three meetings.
GENERALS BY THE NUMBERS:
W&L has turned in yet another impressive season on the pitch in 2025, ranking 16th in Division III scoring offense (3.4 goals/game) and 12th in goals-against average (0.394).
The Generals are led into the weekend by back-to-back ODAC Player of the Year
Sarah Zimmerman and back-to-back ODAC Defensive Player of the Year
Bryn Bissinger. Zimmerman has scored an ODAC-high 15 goals, plus four assists for a team-best 34 points. Bissinger holds things down on the defensive unit and has also gotten forward for 11 points on two goals and seven assists.
Other offensive leaders for the Blue and White include sophomore
Elizabeth Zimmerman with 20 points (6g, 8a) and senior
Helen Otteni and sophomore
Megan Zimmerman at 15 points (5g, 5a) each. In goal, sophomore
Kate McEnroe has provided impressive play all season with a 0.47 GAA in 1,520:18 with six shutouts and a 0.892 save percentage (18th in Division III).
The three Zimmerman sisters each made the All-ODAC First Team, along with Bissinger, senior
Sydney Devory and McEnroe, while Otteni was joined on the third team by ODAC Rookie of the Year
Mary Parrish Green. Head Coach
Tiffany Pins completed the W&L/ODAC awards sweep by earning her third ODAC Coach of the Year honor in just her fourth year with the program.
SAINTS BY THE NUMBERS:
The Saints enter tournament play outscoring opponents 44-20 on the season, with 11 shutouts and a 0.96 goals-against average. Marymount is currently playing its best soccer of the season, outscoring opponents 18-0 over the last four games and 20-3 in the last five.
Arianna Blanco and Nicole Alvarado are pacing the offense with more than 20 points each, with another 14 points coming from Arianna Garcia. Blanco has 27 points on 11 goals and five assists, while Alvarado has 22 points on eight goals and six assists.
Mara Dufour and Sarah Robinson have handled goalkeeping duties for the Saints this season, combining for 1,782:56 between the posts. Dufour owns a 1.34 GAA in 1,074:57 of action, while Robinson has notched a 0.51 GAA in 707:59. Both keepers own two clean sheets this season.
Blanco highlighted the Saints' All-AEC honorees by earning the conference's Rookie of the Year award and a spot on the All-AEC First Team. Alvarado (Midfield) and Isabelle Davis (Defense) joined Blanco on the first team, while Garcia (Forward) and Leila Lajdel (Defense) were both slotted on the second team.
SCRANTON ROYALS, CARNEGIE MELLON TARTANS QUICK HITTERS:
The Scranton Royals are 15-2-3 overall this season and own a 43-8 goal differential in their 20 games so far, en route to winning their sixth straight Landmark Conference championship. Scranton is unbeaten in its last 12 games, with 10 wins in that span.
Jenna Borelli is the Royals' top offensive weapon with 20 points on eight goals and four assists in 20 games played, followed by Morgan Griffin (13 pts – 4g, 5a) and Peyton DiLello (10 pts – 5g). In goal, Makenzie Van Arsdale has handled over 95 percent of the team's minutes. She has 11 shutouts and a 0.42 GAA across 1,717:25 of action.
Borelli and Aileen Carr headlined the Royals' all-conference awardees as the Landmark Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Both made the all-conference first team, along with Van Arsdale and Griffin, with Molly Martys, Alexis Ocasio and Addison Van Lenten each on the second team. The coaching staff, headed by Colleen Pivirotto, also earned Landmark Conference recognition as the staff of the year.
The Carnegie Mellon Tartans earned an at-large bid into the tournament after going 0-3-4 in the University Athletic Association. Overall, they hold a 9-4-5 record, are outscoring their opponents by a 31-14 margin this season and have eight shutouts.
Audrey Bianco and Saveria Ulizzi pace the CMU offense with 20 points and 13 points, respectively. Bianco has scored nine goals and assisted twice, with Ulizzi at five goals and three assists. In goal, Abby O'Connor has played a team-high 906:50 and has a 0.89 goals-against average. Maddie Kellogg has a 0.67 GAA in 405:33, with Kate Bergan and Delaney Martin adding another 291:14 and just two goals allowed.
Bianco was joined on the All-UAA Second Team by Helena Locateli and Vivian Wang. Locateli has led the defensive efforts on the pitch, with Wang contributing three points on a goal and an assist in the midfield.
TICKET INFORMATION:
Spectators for this weekend's games are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance through HomeTown Ticketing. Tickets for kids (3-12) and senior citizens (65+) are $6, with student and adult tickets $11. All sales will be done digitally; cash will not be accepted at Watt Field.
The first 50 W&L undergraduate and law students for W&L games will be admitted for free, covered by Vice President of Student Affairs and the Office of Student Affairs. The University is also sponsoring the cost of admission for members of the University community who present a W&L ID at the ticketing table for Saturday's game against Marymount. If the Generals advance to Sunday's second round contest, the first 50 W&L undergraduate and law students will once again be covered by the Office of Student Affairs.
