W&L Women's Cross Country Wins South/Southeast Regional Preview

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's cross country team had the Top 3 individual runners to finish first out of nine teams at the South/Southeast Regional Preview hosted by Shenandoah on Saturday.

The Generals totaled 44 points, Mary Washington took second (47 points) and Roanoke claimed third with 63 points.

First-year Samantha Yates (Birmingham, Ala./St. Paul's School) won the 6k race out of 93 competitors with a time of 22:37.00. First-year Maggie Seybold (Cockeysville, Md./McDonogh School) edged sophomore Rachel Steffen (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) to claim second in 22:48.10. Steffen crossed the finish line a split second (22:48.30) behind Seybold to take third.

Sophomore Lily Arnold (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) finished 16th in 24:34.40, and first-year Caroline Nowlin (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) rounded out the scoring in 23rd (22:52.40).

W&L returns to action on October 31 at the ODAC Championship hosted by Bridgewater.
