NEW ORLEANS — The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic Teams and individual All-Academic honorees on Friday, and the Washington and Lee women's cross country team and senior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) garnered recognitions.
The Generals were one of 215 teams in Division III to be honored. W&L posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.38. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, a squad must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.
Madison received individual All-Academic status, after placing fifth out of 193 runners at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship. A total of 308 athletes received the honor. With her finish at the Regional Championship, Madison qualified for the NCAA National Championship, and went on to take 143rd, which was the best finish by a General since Elizabeth Webb '09 placed 115th at the 2008 championship.
To qualify for an individual All-Academic status, an athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 25 percent of the competitors at the NCAA Regional Championship.
