NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Washington and Lee women's cross country team finished seventh out of 17 teams at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday, the first meet since September 21 for the Generals.
The race featured Division I and Division III teams, and Johns Hopkins placed first with 21 points. Mount St. Mary's finished second (114) and Williams & Mary took third (125), while W&L totaled 170 points.
Sophomores Katy Bonaro (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and Rachel Solomon (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) finished within a second of one anther. Bonaro came in 48th (24:58.50) and Soloman was 49th (24:59.20). First-year Liz Spruill (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) was the fifth scorer for the Generals in 81st (25:54.60).
Hannah Oneda of Johns Hopkins was the top individual with a time of 21:45.20. W&L beat the four other ODAC schools (Roanoke, Virginia Wesleyan, Shenandoah and Randolph) at the race.
The Generals next compete at the ODAC Championship, hosted by Hampden-Sydney, on November 2.
