LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's cross country team claimed the top three spots en route to winning the Generals Invitational on Saturday morning at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course.
The Generals totaled 21 points to finish first out of six teams, 37 points better than the second-place finisher, St. Mary's (Md.).
Junior Casey Mackintosh (Marietta, Ga. / George Walton) finished as the individual champion, crossing the finish line in 20:12.10 to win for the second time this season. Sophomore Katy Bonaro (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) placed second with a time of 21:21.50, while first-year Alana Babington (Mobile, Ala. / St. Paul's Episcopal) finished third with a time of 21:30.40.
Washington and Lee also placed three more runners in the Top 10, with first-year Liz Spruill (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's) finishing sixth (22:10.30), sophomore Rachel Soloman (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) placing ninth (22:25.20) and first-year Allie Miller McNamara (Nashville, Tenn. / The Harpeth Hall) placing 10th with a time of 22:25.70.
Washington and Lee returns to action on September 21, when it participates in the Eastern Mennonite/Bridgewater Invitational in Elkton, Va. The race begins at 9:45 am.
