W&L Women's XC Lands Top Spot in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2013 women's cross country preseason coaches' poll on Monday, and defending league champion Washington and Lee took the top spot out of 10 teams. The Generals received seven first-place votes and 77 total points.

After finishing second to the Generals at last year's meet, Bridgewater comes in second in the poll with 75 points and three first-place votes. Eastern Mennonite was picked third (65), Lynchburg fourth (59) and Virginia Wesleyan (45) rounds out the Top 5. Roanoke is sixth with 44 points, followed by Shenandoah (41), Randolph (21), Guilford (20) and Emory & Henry (15).

Last season's title was the 14th overall league crown for the Blue and White and the second in the past three years. Junior Casey Mackintosh (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) is the team's top returning competitor, after taking fifth at the championship in 2012 to earn First Team All-ODAC honors.

The Generals also return senior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris), a three-time All-ODAC honoree. W&L brings back nine competitors from last year's championship team and adds seven first-year runners. This will also be the first season under Interim Head Coach Kristin Cupido.

W&L opens the season on Friday, August 30, at the ODAC Preview Meet at Hampden-Sydney at 6:00 pm.
