BETHLEHEM, Pa. — In a field of 34 teams at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh, the Washington and Lee women's cross country team claimed the top spot in the White race by 29 points. The Generals finished with 59 points by taking three of the Top 7 spots and seven of the Top 30. Eastern Mennonite came in second with 88 points and Lebanon Valley took third with 178.
Senior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) led W&L with a fourth-place finish at 22:58. She has been the top finisher for the team in each of the three meets this season. Classmate Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) crossed the line seven seconds behind Schultz in fifth at 23:05. In the seventh spot was junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) with a time of 23:12.
The fourth scorer for the Generals was first-year Rachel Solomon (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) in 19th at 24:05, and rounding out the Top 5 for W&L was sophomore Casey Mackintosh (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) in 24th with a time of 24:10.
It was the first competition for the Generals since hosting the W&L Invitational on September 8. In each of the three meets the team has run in this year, the squad has taken the top spot.
Washington and Lee returns to action on October 13, at the Christopher Newport Invitational.
