FOREST, Va. — Washington and Lee senior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) was named the ODAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending September 9, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Schultz helped the team place first at its own W&L Invitational on Saturday, taking the top spot with a time of 20:36 in the 5k race. She beat the second-place finisher, classmate Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan), by 21 seconds on her way to victory. Only four runners finished within a minute of Schultz, who earned the win after taking second at the ODAC Preview Meet last week.
The race marked the second consecutive team victory for Washington and Lee, after winning the ODAC Preview Meet on September 1.
The Generals take a couple of weeks off to train before returning to competition at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh on Friday, September 28.
