W&L Women’s XC Takes Top Spot at ODAC Preview Meet

HARRISONBURG, Va. — In the first meet of the 2012 season, the Washington and Lee women's cross country team beat eight other teams to claim the top spot at the ODAC Preview Meet at the Peakview Course on Friday. Eastern Mennonite hosted the race at the same site that will be used for the ODAC Championship in eight weeks.

The Generals totaled 33 points with their top six runners all finishing in the Top 11. Senior captain Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) took second with a time of 24:55. Junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) finished fifth at 25:30.

First-year Rachel Solomon (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) crossed the finish line seventh with a time of 25:41. First-year Kaitlin Bonaro followed in ninth at 25:46.

The next two runners to cross the line for W&L were sophomore Casey Mackintosh (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) in 10th (25:50) and senior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) in 11th (25:55). 

Full results of the meet were not immediately available.

The Generals return to action next Saturday, September 8, when they host the W&L Invitational. The women's race is slated to begin at 10:00 am.
