W&L's Huffman and Schultz Honored by USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2011 Division III Cross Country All-Academic Honorees and the Washington and Lee women's cross country team had a pair of athletes honored.

Junior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and sophomore Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) were each honored for their work in the classroom and on the course.
Schultz, a geology major, finished second overall at the ODAC Cross Country Championship and 12th overall at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Meet in earning First Team All-ODAC and all-region accolades. By virtue of her finish at the regional meet, she qualified for the NCAA Championships, where she recorded a time of 23:32 to finish in 239th place.
Huffman, an undeclared major, earned second team all-conference accolades at the ODAC Championships, finishing in 11th place. She joined Schultz on the all-region team with a 34th-place finish.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, an athlete must have compiled at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and place in the Top 35 at their respective NCAA Regional Championship.
