W&L Women's Cross Country Wins Hornet XC Challenge

BEDFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's cross country team started off the 2011 season by winning the Hornet XC Challenge on Thursday evening hosted by Lynchburg College.

All five of the Generals' runners finished in the Top 20, including three in the Top 10.

W&L was led by junior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), who took third place with a time of 24:09. Sophomore Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) followed in fourth place in 24:20 and sophomore Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) finished in seventh place with a time of 24:52.

The final two W&L runners were sophomore Ashley Gerard (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) in 16th place (26:49) and junior Teresa Soley (Lebanon, N.J./Mother of Divine Grace) in 17th place (26:50).

Full results of the meet were not immediately available.

The Generals return to action next Saturday when they host the W&L Invitational. The women's race is slated to begin at 10:00 am with the men's race to follow at 11:00 am.
