W&L VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO EMORY, 3-0, IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The third-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team saw its season end with a 30-26, 30-23, 30-23 loss to second-seeded Emory University in the NCAA Division III South Regional Semifinals on Friday evening at Trinity University.

The Generals were led by senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who tallied 11 kills, six digs and three aces. Ruckert ends her career with an ODAC-record 1,519 kills.

Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 12 kills in 19 attempts and ends the season with a school-record .386 hitting percentage.

Junior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) amassed eight kills, eight digs and three aces, while freshman outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) notched six kills and nine digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) added 31 assists.

Emory (27-6) was paced by Amy Hyman’s 13 kills and seven digs. Kim Rahn totaled 12 kills and 10 digs, while Caitlin Crafts recorded 38 assists.

Washington and Lee ends its season with a school-record 30 wins against just five losses.

W&L VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES TO NCAA SOUTH REGION SEMIFINALS

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Division III South Regional Semifinals with a 30-21, 30-15, 30-15 win over Christopher Newport on Thurdsay evening at Trinity University.

In the process, the third-seeded Generals set a new school record for wins in a season. W&L is now 30-4 overall.

Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) led W&L with 12 kills and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) totaled nine kills, nine digs and seven aces, while senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) added nine kills, six digs and six aces. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 31 assists.

Sixth-seeded Christopher Newport (24-11) was led by Lindsey Sheppard, who recorded seven kills and six digs. Nina Richardson tallied 18 assists for the Captains.

Washington and Lee will face second-seeded Emory in the semifinals on Friday evening at 5:00 pm CST. The Eagles received a first-round bye.

W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS FOURTH ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP IN FIVE YEARS

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Top-seeded Washington and Lee claimed its fourth ODAC Volleyball Championship in the last five years as the Generals defeated seventh-seeded Roanoke, 30-21, 30-20, 30-15, in the championship game on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (29-4) were led by senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 13 kills in earning tournament MVP honors. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) notched 12 digs, while freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) tallied 36 assists. Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) added 12 kills in making the all-tournament team.

Roanoke (17-12) was led by freshman middle blocker Heather Cook (Dublin, Va./Pulaski), who tallied 12 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Melissa Slusher (Altavista, Va./Altavista) and sophomore setter Holly Holland (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd) both notched five digs. Holland also contributed 28 assists. Both Cook and Holland made the all-tournament team for the Maroons.

With the win, Washington and Lee earns the ODAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Generals will compete in the NCAA South Regional held Nov. 8-11 at a site to be determined.

W&L VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES TO ODAC FINALS WITH A 3-1 WIN OVER BRIDGEWATER

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) posted 21 kills to lead top-seeded Washington and Lee past fifth-seeded Bridgewater, 30-21, 27-30, 30-22, 30-24 in the ODAC Volleyball Tournament Semifinals on Saturday morning in Lexington.

Ruckert’s 21 kills give her 433 on the season, breaking her own school record for kills in a season. Freshman outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) chipped in with 12 digs and freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed a game-high 39 assists.

Bridgewater (17-13) was led by sophomore outside hitter Candy Baker (Faber, Va./Nelson County), who tallied 17 kills and 18 digs. Junior setter Tiffany Tumer (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) notched 30 assists.

Washington and Lee (28-4) advances to the finals for the seventh straight year where it will face seventh-seeded Roanoke College. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DOWNS GUILFORD, 3-0, IN ODAC QUARTERFINALS

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 11 kills to help lead top-seeded Washington and Lee to a 30-19, 30-26, 30-26 win over eighth-seeded Guilford in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Volleyball Tournament on Friday evening.

Fischbeck was complimented by senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who amassed 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) tallied 35 assists.

Guilford was led by junior outside hitter Jennifer Pue-Gilchrist (Garner, N.C./Leesville Road), who totaled 12 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore setter Christina Middleton (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) added 12 assists.

With the win, the Generals improved to 27-4 overall, while Guilford fell to 4-27. W&L advances to the semifinals where it will meet Bridgewater. The match is slated to begin at 10:30 am Saturday morning.

W&L VOLLEYBALL SPLITS TWO IN THE MARYVILLE INVITATIONAL

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of action at the Maryville Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals fell to Cumberland (Ky.), 30-21, 22-30, 27-30, 30-25, 16-18, then defeated Maryville, 30-21, 30-23, 30-15.

In the loss to Cumberland, senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the way with 24 kills, 13 digs and five blocks. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) tallied 13 kills and 28 digs, while senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) notched 14 kills.

Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 49 assists and nine digs.

In the win over Maryville, Ruckert totaled 16 kills and eight digs, while Fischbeck registered seven kills and four blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Kari Lassen (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) notched 10 digs. Lux added 34 assists.

W&L, now 26-4 on the season, will be in action again on Friday as it hosts the ODAC Tournament. The times and opponents for the tournament are yet to be determined.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball improved to 25-3 overall with a pair of wins in the opening day of the Maryville Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Generals defeated Sewanee, 30-23, 30-18, 30-13, and Stillman, 30-17, 30-16, 30-19.

In the win over Sewanee, freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) led the way with 16 kills and six digs. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) amassed nine kills and 10 digs, while senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled nine kills and four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded six kills, seven digs and five aces and freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) added 36 assists and eight aces.

Against Stillman, Fischbeck led W&L with eight kills, while Lux posted 22 assists and six digs. Senior outside hitter Sara Heusel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Novi) registered six kills, six aces and five digs.

The Generals will be in action again on Saturday in the Maryville Invitational as they face Cumberland (Ky.) at 1:00 pm and Maryville at 3:00 pm.

HOLLINS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team breezed past Hollins University, 30-16, 30-12, 30-18, on Tuesday evening.

The Generals finished the ODAC regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark and improved to 23-3 overall. Hollins fell to 6-17 overall, 2-7 in the ODAC.

W&L was led by senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills), who totaled nine kills and three blocks. W&L VOLLEYBALL REMAINS UNBEATEN IN ODAC WITH 3-1 WIN OVER LYNCHBURG

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team remained unbeaten in the ODAC with a 30-22, 30-18, 29-31, 30-22 win over Lynchburg on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The win upped W&L’s record to 22-3 overall, 9-0 in the ODAC, while Lynchburg fell to 19-7, 5-3 in the ODAC.

Senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) amassed 19 kills, three aces and nine digs to lead the Generals. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) totaled 12 kills and 17 digs, while senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) notched 12 kills and four blocks.

Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) registered 48 assists and 17 digs. With the 48 assists, Lux pushed her season total to 851, breaking the W&L season record of 847 held by Ali Beard since the 1996 season.

Washington and Lee, who has wrapped up the number one seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament, will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Hollins University for a 6:30 pm match.

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved to 20-3 overall by winning the Goucher Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals defeated Seton Hill, 28-30, 30-12, 30-27, 30-27, and Marymount, 30-14, 31-29, 30-13 before downing Lynchburg, 30-18, 30-10, 30-21, in the finals.

Against Seton Hill, senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the way with 16 kills, seven digs and five aces. Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 14 kills and freshman outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded 12 kills. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) registered 10 kills and 11 digs, while freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 46 assists.

In the win over Marymount, Ruckert and Chastain tied for the team lead with nine kills. Fischbeck totaled eight kills and four blocks, while Wolfing had seven kills and nine digs. Lux added 29 assists and eight digs.

In the championship match against Lynchburg, Chastain led the way with 10 kills and 13 digs. Ruckert totaled eight kills and six digs, while junior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) provided seven kills and 10 digs. Wolfing added eight kills and nine digs and Fischbeck recorded nine kills and seven blocks. Lux registered 30 assists and five digs.

Ruckert was named to the all-tournament team. She passed the career 1,000-dig mark and is in third place all-time at W&L in that category.

Washington and Lee will be in action again on Thursday as it travels to Bridgewater for a 6:30 pm match with the Eagles.

As a team, the Generals (17-3, 7-0) totaled 16 blocks in the contest led by senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills), who recorded 11 blocks, one off the school record. She also totaled 14 kills.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) totaled 14 kills, six digs and three blocks to lead Washington and Lee past Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, 30-19, 30-15, 30-18, in ODAC Volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

Ruckert also served one ace to break the W&L career service ace record set by Leslie Hess ‘92. Ruckert’s total now stands at 159 aces.

Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) recorded nine kills and five blocks, while senior outside hitter Sara Heusel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Novi) notched seven kills and five digs.

RUCKERT BREAKS ODAC KILL RECORD AS W&L VOLLEYBALL BEATS GUILFORD, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) totaled 15 kills as Washington and Lee defeated Guilford, 30-20, 30-20, 30-20 in ODAC volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

Ruckert’s 15 kills give her 1,224 for her career, breaking the ODAC career kills record (1,221) held by former teammate Nancy Reinhart ‘00.

The win upped the Generals record to 11-1 overall, tying the 1996 team for the best start in school history. W&L’s ODAC record currently stands at 3-0.

DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team emerged as the champion of the Centre College Invitational after defeating Rio Grande, 30-23, 26-30, 30-23, 30-23, and Emory & Henry, 21-30, 30-22, 30-20, 30-19, on Sunday afternoon. The Generals went 5-0 in the tournament.

Senior middle blockers Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) were named to the all-tournament team with Ruckert taking home tournament MVP honors.

In the win over Rio Grande, Ruckert led the Generals with 25 kills and 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) totaled 10 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Kari Lassen (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) added 16 digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) recorded 52 assists and 14 digs.

Against Emory & Henry, Ruckert, who is just 33 kills from breaking the W&L and ODAC career record, posted 19 kills and nine digs. Fischbeck totaled 10 kills and seven blocks, while Lux added 33 assists and 14 digs.

Washington and Lee, who is now 8-1 on the season, will be in action again on Wednesday as it opens its ODAC schedule by hosting Emory & Henry. The match is slated to begin at 6:30 pm.

W&L VOLLEYBALL POSTS 3-0 RECORD IN DAY ONE ACTION OF CENTRE INVITE

DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team notched a 3-0 record in the first day of competition at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals defeated Centre, 30-21, 30-21, 30-21, LaGrange, 30-17, 30-26, 30-22 and Hollins, 30-22, 30-23, 30-11.

Against Centre, the Generals were led by freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who amassed 12 kills and seven digs. Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 10 kills and six blocks, while senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) notched eight kills and 10 digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) totaled 34 assists, six digs and four blocks.

In the win over LaGrange, Ruckert led the way with 14 kills and nine digs. Chastain totaled seven kills and nine digs, while Lux notched 27 assists and 11 digs.

Against Hollins, Ruckert again led the way with 13 kills and six digs. Chastain posted eight kills and six digs, while Fischbeck amassed seven kills and four blocks. Lux added 23 assists. Senior outside hitter Sara Heusel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Novi) served seven aces in the third game, a W&L record for aces in a game.

Washington and Lee, who is now 6-1 on the season, will be in action again tomorrow in the Centre Invitational. Action begins at 10:00 am against the University of Rio Grande.

W&L VOLLEYBALL SPLITS TWO GAMES IN W&L INVITATIONAL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split a pair of games during the second day of competition in the W&L Invitational at the Warner Center on Saturday afternoon. The Generals defeated Christopher Newport, 30-23, 30-20, 21-30, 30-18, in their first match before losing to Catholic in the championship match, 30-24, 30-28, 21-30, 30-21.

In the first match, senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the way with 14 digs, 13 kills and four aces. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) added 12 digs and nine kills. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed a team-high 29 assists.

In the loss to Catholic, Ruckert again led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs. Lux collected a team-high 46 assists and 12 digs. Senior Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) added nine kills for W&L.

The Generals (3-1) will return to action next Saturday when they play Centre at 10:00 am in their opening match of the Centre Tournament.

In the first match, senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the way with 12 kills, three aces and six digs. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) added nine kills. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed a team-high 37 assists and seven digs.

In the win over Shenandoah, Ruckert again led the way with a game-high 16 kills, three aces and five digs. Chastain totaled a team-high 14 digs, while Lux collected a team-high 29 assists and nine digs.

The Generals (2-0) will return to action Saturday as they host Christopher Newport (9:30 am) and Catholic (3:30 pm) in the final day of the Invitational.
