BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team used a balanced attack to earn a 3-1 victory at Bridgewater on Wednesday at the Nininger Hall.
The Generals (13-2, 5-0 ODAC) took the first set, 25-22, but the Eagles (12-4, 3-2 ODAC) evened the match by claiming the second, 25-20. The third was another close set, but W&L pulled it out, 25-23, and then closed out the contest in the fourth, 25-14.
Junior outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) led the Blue and White with 15 kills and 17 digs. First-year outside hitter Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) notched 11 kills and 12 digs. First-year middle blocker Courtney Berry (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) needed just 12 attempts to register nine kills for a .750 hitting percentage. She also chipped in eight blocks and six digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) totaled seven kills. Senior setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) totaled 22 assists and 10 digs, while senior defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) had 16 digs and seven assists.
Junior outside hitter Deja Booker led Bridgewater with 11 kills and sophomore middle blocker Madison Haynes added 10 kills. Senior defensive specialist Macon Frey tallied 19 digs and junior setter Victoria Wilson recorded 27 assists.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, October 4, when they host Lynchburg at 6:30 pm.
