LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball hit .287 on its way to a 3-0 sweep over Southern Virginia on Saturday at the Warner Center as part of the W&L Invitational.
The Generals (6-1) recorded 41 kills on 108 attempts with just 10 errors, while holding the Knights (4-4) to a .183 hitting percentage. SVU had 39 kills on 120 attempts with 17 errors.
The Blue and White won the first set, 25-21, and then fended off a SVU rally to take the second, 25-23. The Generals closed out the match in the third, 25-20.
First-year outside hitter Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) led the team with 14 kills on 30 attempts with five errors for a .300 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) recorded another double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs.
Senior Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) and sophomore Mollie Ray (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) split the setting duties. West totaled 16 assists and five digs, and Ray had 14 assists and seven digs. Senior defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) added 13 digs.
Senior outside hitter Penny Gwynn led the Knights with 11 kills and 12 digs, while first-year right side Hailey Lohnes and senior outside hitter Hannah Allred each notched 10 kills. Sophomore libero Mykynli Knight tallied a match-high 18 digs.
The Generals finish their play at the W&L Invitational, when they host Meredith at 3:30 pm on Saturday.
