LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team recorded a team hitting percentage of .330 en route to a 3-0 sweep of Frostburg State on Saturday at the Warner Center.
The Generals (16-3) had 46 kills on 103 attempts with only 12 errors. First-year outside hitter Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) and sophomore outside hitter Elly Cosgrove (Wilmington, N.C./John T. Hoggard) each totaled 10 kills to pace the Blue and White.
W&L won the first set, 25-13, and followed that with a 25-13 victory in the second. The Bobcats (8-14) tightened the score in the third, and held a 22-19 lead late in the frame. The Blue and White responded by winning six of the next seven points to win the set, 25-23, and claim the match.
Webb notched her 10 kills on just 22 attempts with one error for a .462 hitting percentage. Cosgrove added a team-best 13 digs to her 10 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) had eight kills and 10 digs, while senior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) tallied seven kills and four blocks.
Junior defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) contributed 11 digs, while first-year outside hitter Ashleigh Meade (Bristow, Va./Patriot) had 12 digs and five kills. First-year setter Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) registered 18 assists and three kills.
Frostburg State hit .116 as a team with 22 kills and 11 errors on 95 total attempts. Junior middle hitters Zoe Harris and Jessica Bugtong each had five kills to lead the Bobcats. First-year defensive specialist Cori Smothers added a match-high 14 digs.
The Generals play at Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
