Balanced Attack Leads W&L Volleyball Past EMU, 3-1
HARRISONBURG, Va. — With four players recording at least seven kills, the Washington and Lee volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory at Eastern Mennonite on Friday.
The Generals (19-5, 8-0 ODAC) won the first set, 25-19, but the Royals (9-14, 2-7 ODAC) took the second, 25-18. W&L responded by claiming the next two, 25-18 and 25-16, to secure the match.
Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) led the team with a double-double on 11 kills and 13 assists. Senior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) tallied seven kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) and first-year middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) each notched eight kills. Shand reached her total on just 14 attempts with one error for a .500 hitting percentage.
Senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) spread the ball around on offense for the Blue and White. She registered 36 assists with 13 digs. Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) led the team with 15 digs.
For EMU, sophomore outside hitter Kayley Argenbright totaled 11 kills and senior middle hitter Rachel Kennel had a match-high 16 digs.
The Generals play at Bridgewater on Saturday at 10:30 am, and then play a neutral-site contest against Salem at 12:30 pm.
