LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team had three players notch at least seven kills in a 3-0 victory over Marymount on Saturday at the Warner Center.
The Generals (16-3) edged the Saints (13-8), 25-22, in each of the first two sets, but pulled away in the third, 25-9, to seal the win. Sophomore right side Maddie Kosar (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) led the team with nine kills and four total blocks, including two solo blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) and senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) each added seven kills. Lausberg also totaled five digs, three assists and five service aces, with the final one ending the match in the third set. Boles added six digs.
Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) led the team with 13 digs, and senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) totaled 25 assists, three aces, six digs, two blocks and two kills.
Junior outside hitter Erin Allison (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) tallied a match-high 10 kills for Marymount. First-year outside hitter Emileigh Rettig (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) led all players with 16 digs. She also added seven kills.
The 16-3 record for the Generals is the best start for the team since W&L went 17-2 in its first 19 games in 2011.
W&L plays at Centre next Saturday at 6:30 pm.
