FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its athletes of the week on Monday for the week ending September 15 and two Washington and Lee athletes were honored.
Sophomore Rachael Wright (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) was named the ODAC Women's Golfer of the Week and senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) was selected as the Volleyball Player of the Week.
Wright started off the 2013-14 campaign with a third-place finish overall at the Dickinson Invitational hosted at Blue Ridge Country Club in Harrisburg, Pa. Wright carded a 10-over round of 82, placing four strokes back of the medalist in the one round tourney. Wright's efforts helped the Generals place fourth as a team (+92, 380) on the par 72, 5,805-yard track.
Meleski propelled the volleyball team to a 3-0 week. On Friday, she totaled 43 assists, 14 digs, four total blocks and a kill in a 3-1 win over Randolph-Macon. Against Virginia Wesleyan, she recorded 42 assists in just three sets for a 14.00 assists per set average. She also had a kill and six digs. In the victory over Averett, Meleski had 35 assists, 12 digs, two blocks, and four kills.
For the week, she tallied six kills, 120 assists, six aces, 32 digs and seven blocks. She averaged 12.00 assists per set, which improved her season total to 9.94 a/s (which is the top mark in the ODAC). Meleski also helped the Generals post a .271 hitting total in the three matches, highlighted by a .302 team hitting percentage against Averett.
The women's golf team is back in action at the ODAC Preview on Sunday and the volleyball team travels to Lynchburg on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm contest.
