LEXINGTON, Va. — With five players recording at least eight kills, the Washington and Lee volleyball team swept Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0, on Saturday at the Warner Center.
The Generals (8-2, 2-0 ODAC) blew by the Marlins (7-4, 1-1 ODAC) in the first, 25-9, edged VWC in the second, 25-23, and then closed out the match in the third, 25-14.
Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas) led the team with 12 kills. She also recorded her second consecutive double-double with 12 digs. Sophomore right side Maddie Kosar (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) contributed 10 kills on a .389 hitting percentage and tallied nine digs.
First-year middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) recorded nine kills on 14 attempts (.571) and sophomore outside hitter Mansie Hough (St. Petersburg, Fla./Canterbury School) and first-year outside hitter Courtney Freudenthal (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) each had eight kills.
Senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) distributed the ball on offense with 42 assists. She also added six digs and two service aces.
Junior middle hitter Alex Lambert (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) led the Marlins with eight kills in 20 attempts. Sophomore libero Marin Crowder (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) had a team-high 12 digs.
The Generals played Averett later on Saturday.
