Boles Earns Academic All-District Honor

GREENWOOD, Ind. — The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball teams on Thursday, and junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) was selected to the District 5 team in the Division III category.

Boles, a team captain and a business administration and Spanish double major, will move onto the national ballot where she has a chance at earning Academic All-America honors. She recently earned her third consecutive First-Team All-ODAC recognition after helping the Generals win their 13th ODAC Championship.

It was a career year for Boles on the court as she has a single-season career-high in kills (453), set a single-match kills career-high with 28 against Geneva on September 28 and moved to fourth on the W&L career kills list with 1,292. Emily Wolfing '05 is in third with 1,490.

Her kill total this season is the fifth-best mark in program history. Boles is one kill behind Wolfing's 454 in 2004 for fourth. Michelle Chastain '04 holds the all-time record with 475 in 2002.

The Generals (26-9) compete against fifth-ranked Christopher Newport on Friday, November 9, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at 8:00 pm in Newport News, Va.

The criteria for the Capital One All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District 5, which includes players from small colleges in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
