LEXINGTON, Va. — Using a .327 hitting percentage, the Washington and Lee Volleyball team defeated Shenandoah, 3-0, on Tuesday night at the Warner Center.
The Generals totaled 43 kills on 98 total attempts with only 11 errors in the 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 victory. W&L improved to 15-7 overall and 5-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. It also marked the team's fourth win in its last five matches. The Hornets dropped to 9-10 and 2-5 in the league.
First-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) and junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) led the Generals with 13 kills apiece. Lausberg hit .367 on 30 attempts and added eights digs and four total blocks. Boles hit .273 on 33 attempts and tallied two service aces and five digs.
First-year libero Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) led the defense with 11 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View School) recorded 10. Cannon also totaled five service aces. Junior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) led the team in assists with 24.
Sophomore libero Nicole Mueller (Keezletown, Va./Spotswood) had a match-high 15 digs for Shenandoah. Senior outside hitter Mary Harshman (New Windsor, Md./S. Carroll) led the Hornets with 10 kills.
The victory marked the second win of the season over Shenandoah for W&L. The two teams played a non-conference match at the Gallaudet Worthington Classic on September 28 with the Blue and White winning, 3-1.
The Generals next play at the Rhodes Tournament, and face Rust and Rhodes on Friday, October 12.
