Randolph-Macon Hands W&L Volleyball Its First ODAC Loss

ASHLAND, Va. — With both teams coming into the match without an Old Dominion Athletic Conference loss, Randolph-Macon beat the Washington and Lee volleyball team on Wednesday in Ashland, 3-0.

The Generals (11-5, 5-1 ODAC) lost in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 27-25, as the Yellow Jackets (11-2, 7-0 ODAC) won their seventh league match.

Junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) led W&L with 12 kills on 47 attempts. She also had nine digs. First-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) contributed seven kills and seven digs.

First-year defensive specialist Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) led the team in digs with 10. First-year Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) and junior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) split the setting duties. Kinzer finished the match with 20 assists with Meleski tallying 10.

Randolph-Macon senior outside hitter Mallory Carter led all players with 13 kills, and junior libero Marli Dabareiner had a match-high 18 digs.

The Yellow Jackets used a .209 hitting percentage and 15 total blocks to earn the victory. Washington and Lee hit .142 and recorded 11 total blocks. The Generals held the edge in service aces, 6-4, but also committed 10 service errors compared to four by R-MC.

It was the first loss in conference play for W&L since the team lost at Lynchburg, 3-2, on September 29, 2010. The Generals next compete in the Gallaudet Worthington Classic this weekend.
