W&L Volleyball Blanks Eastern Mennonite, 3-0

HARRISONBURG, Va. — In its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference match of the season, the Washington and Lee volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep at Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday.

The Generals (6-3, 1-0 ODAC) dominated in the 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 win over the Royals (2-5, 0-1 ODAC). It was a match of runs for W&L with a 10-point streak in the first set, a six-point run in the second and six straight in the third.   

The Blue and White had three players record six-or-more kills. Sophomore middle blocker Katie Toomb (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) led the team with seven kills and added four total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Guarisco (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit) and junior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) each had six kills.

Junior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and first-year Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) split the setting duties. Meleski totaled 16 assists, while Kinzer added 13. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) controlled the back row for the Generals with a season-high 19 digs. McManus also had five service aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Sara Ritchie had six kills to lead EMU, and sophomore setter Mattie Lehman just missed a double-double with 14 assists and nine digs.

The Generals return home on Friday when they host Lynchburg at 5:30 pm.
