MARIETTA, Ohio – The Washington and Lee volleyball team saw its 13-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Geneva (Pa.) on day one of the Pioneer Classic hosted by Marietta College.
W&L (13-1), fell 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 23-25 to see its best start in school history come to an end.
The Generals were led by junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant), who had a team-best 24 digs, while first-year setter Corinne Hemmersbach (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick) had 19 digs and sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) added 17.
Sophomore setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) had 35 assists and senior outside hitter Megan Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) led the team with 14 kills. Junior right side Taylor Maxey (Poway, Calif./The Bishop's School) added 11 kills and three blocks.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it takes on host Marietta at 11:00 am, followed by a 1:15 matchup with John Carroll.
