LEXINGTON, Va. — First-year Katie Harris (Ashburn, Va./Rock Ridge) finished seventh in the 5,000m to pace the Washington and Lee women's track and field team on day one at the VMI Invitational on Friday at the Corps Physical Training Facility. The meet featured mostly Division I teams with only a handful of Division III programs competing.
Highlights From the Meet
- Harris finished the race in 18:49.39 to claim seventh, besting eight Division I runners. In her first time competing in the event in her collegiate career, Harris' time was just 14 seconds away from being in the program's all-time Top 5.
- First-year Emma Coleman (Parkton, Md./Hereford) improved on her fourth-best program mark in the weight throw with a toss of 9.68m (31'9.25").
- The Distance Medley Relay finished fifth with a time of 13:03.70. The quartet consisted of first-year Anna Nelson (Arvada, Colo./Standley Lake), senior Lily Arnold (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School), first-year Annie Cunningham (Clifton, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) and sophomore Julia Moody (Houston, Texas/St. John's School).
- In the 4x800m relay, a non-NCAA Championship event, the Generals set a school record with a time of 10:17.47. The foursome consisted of first-years Claire Smith (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall School), Kathryn Fagan (Metairie, La./Metairie Park Country Day), Didi Pace (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and Arnold. The previous mark was 10:20.12 set in 2011.
