LINCOLN, Neb. — Washington and Lee first-year Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn./St. Cecilia Academy) finished ninth in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan.
Lee recorded a mark of 5.41m (17'09.00) in the second of her first three attempts in the prelims. She was one of nine competitors out of 17 to advance to the finals, but did not registered a jump better than 5.37m in her last three attempts.
Senior Naomi Bates of Amherst won the event with a jump of 5.79m (19'00.00"). Lee just missed receiving All-America honors, as the Top 8 in the event garnered the recognition. Lee was one of only two first-years competing in the event.
Lee was the first W&L women's track and field athlete to compete in the long jump at an Indoor or Outdoor Division III NCAA Championship. The Generals outdoor track and field season begins next weekend when the Blue and White hosts the W&L Carnival on March 21 and 22.
