FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2013-14 women's indoor track and field preseason coaches' poll on Friday, and Washington and Lee was picked second out of nine schools. The Generals received four first-place votes and 56 total points.
Defending indoor champion Roanoke collected four first-place votes and 59 points to garner the top spot. Following W&L, Bridgewater and Lynchburg tied for third at 49 points. The Hornets also garnered the remaining first-place tally. Rounding out the poll was Eastern Mennonite (34 points), Virginia Wesleyan (31), Shenandoah (23) Guilford (13) and Randolph (10).
W&L finished second at the 2013 ODAC Indoor Championship by only two points. The meet came down to the final race, with the Maroons winning the 4x400m relay and the Blue and White taking second.
The Generals have one individual indoor ODAC Champion returning in junior Jillian Katterhagen (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands). She took the top spot in the pole vault at 3.20m (10'06.00"). W&L is also the returning champion in the DMR with two of the four members of the relay back this season in junior Sarah Helms (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth) and sophomore Johanna Goergen (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon).
In all, the Generals return 23 athletes and bring in 13 newcomers. The team opens the indoor season on January 17 at the Liberty Open.
