DURHAM, N.C. — Senior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) set the Washington and Lee women's track and field school record in the 3,000m steeplechase on Sunday at the Duke Twilight Meet.
Ortiz finished eighth overall, the top Division III competitor, at 11:15.17. It is the third fastest time in the South/Southeast Region and the 30th-best time in D-III this year. The previous W&L record was 11:22.19 set by Becca Taylor in 2009. Senior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) was ninth in the event with a time of 11:28.00.
In the 1,500m, junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) was the only Division III athlete in the field, and took eighth with a time of 4:41.31. It is the third fastest mark in the South/Southeast Region, and was a season-best for Madison.
The next meet for the Generals is the University of Virginia Challenge on Saturday, May 11.
