    Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that Kris Hoey has resigned as head women’s cross country coach and assistant women’s track & field coach, and that current assistant coach Kristin Cupido has been promoted to interim head coach for the 2013 season.

  • W&L Claims the 2013 ODAC Overall Sports Champion Cup

    For the 11th-consecutive year, Washington and Lee University has claimed the Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, as announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Friday. The Generals claimed both the Women’s Commissioner’s Cup and the Men’s Commissioner’s Cup on their way to the overall title.
  • Thompson Leads W&L Duo at Lynchburg Multi-Event

    The Washington and Lee women’s track and field team sent two competitors to the Lynchburg Multi-Event on Monday and Tuesday. Senior Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) took third with 3,686 points in the heptathlon and junior Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) finished seventh at 2,950 points.
  • Ortiz Sets School Record at Duke Twilight

    Senior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) set the Washington and Lee women’s track and field school record in the 3,000m steeplechase on Sunday at the Duke Twilight Meet.
  • Three Generals Compete at Liberty Twilight Qualifier

    The Washington and Lee women’s track and field team had three athletes compete at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on Wednesday. The event consisted of competitors from Division I, II and III teams, who are looking to achieve qualifying times/marks for the NCAA Championship.

    For the first time in Washington and Lee women’s track and field history, the Generals had an athlete run at the historic Penn Relays. Sophomore Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) competed in the 400H on Thursday, and finished third among Division III competitors.
  • Numerous W&L Students Earn Winter Term Scholar-Athlete Awards

    Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 179 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.
  • W&L Women's T&F Takes Second at ODAC Championship

    The Washington and Lee women’s track and field team totaled a program record 155 points at the ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday at Wilson Field. The Generals finished second behind Roanoke (178.5 points) for the team title. Lynchburg was third with 125 points.

    The Washington and Lee women’s track and field team took the top two spots in the 10,000m and the 3,000m steeplechase to hold second place after day one of the 2013 ODAC Track and Field Championship at Wilson Field. Lynchburg leads with 57 points, the Generals have 49 points and Roanoke is third (41.5 points).

    Headlined by a school record in the 400mH by sophomore Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Acadmey), the Washington and Lee women’s track and field team competed at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Invitational hosted by Lynchburg to open the outdoor season on Saturday. The meet consisted of Division II and III teams, and the Generals ended with 18 Top 10 finishes.

    Washington and Lee University is set to induct 49 members into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at a convocation on March 14. Among the inductees are 13 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and on the playing fields.

    The Washington and Lee women’s track and field team finished second (128 points) by two points at the 2013 Women’s ODAC Indoor Championship on Friday at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. Roanoke claimed the title with 130 points.
