NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Seven Top 5 finishes among Division III athletes highlighted the Washington and Lee women's track & field team's performance at the CNU Vince Brown Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Freeman Center.
Junior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) was W&L's top finisher on the day, taking first in Div. III and fourth overall in the mile in 5:21.62. She was also the anchor of the distance medley relay team that took second overall with a time of 13:15.00. She was joined on the relay by sophomore Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris), sophomore Katie Driest (Davidson, N.C./North Mecklenburg) and junior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan).
Individually, Madison added a second-place finish among Div. III competitors in the 800m with a time of 2:25.40. Sophomore Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) took third in the 5000m with a time of 18:58.56 and junior Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) was fourth in the 200m in 27.34.
Finally, the 4x400 relay team of sophomore Lauren Woodie (Bluefield Va./Graham), senior Natalie Stier (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton), first-year Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) and junior Paige Gance (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) took fourth with a time of 4:15.89.
W&L will compete next Thursday at the Navy Sweetheart Meet beginning at 4:00 pm.
