Eric Ishida is in his fourth season as the head women's tennis coach at Washington and Lee. Ishida served as interim head coach during the 2007-08 season and led the Generals to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division III Tournament. He guided W&L to a 28-1 overall record, an ODAC title and No. 1 National Ranking throughout the season. Ishida also serves as the assistant director of W&L's Duchossois Tennis Center.
In 2009, Ishida led W&L to a 20-5 overall record, a final national ranking of No. 5 and saw his team win its 19th ODAC title while sweeping league Player of the Year, Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year accolades. His squad finished with a 19-7 record during the 2010 campaign, claiming its 20th ODAC title and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Team Championships.
Ishida was an assistant coach for the Generals' run to the NCAA Division III National Championship during the 2006-07 season. He helped lead W&L to a 25-1 overall record, an Old Dominion Athletic Conference title and the school's run through the NCAA Tournament towards its' first-ever national title.
A 2004 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor of science degree in physical education, Ishida competed on the tennis team at Wright State University for three years before completing his degree work at Ohio University. While at Ohio University he was the student manager of the Ohio University Golf and Tennis Center and vice president, coach, and player for the OU Club tennis team.
Active in the local and national tennis community, Ishida
currently serves on the board of the Rockbridge County Tennis
Association and sits on the ITA Atlantic South Rankings Committee.
Ishida is a USPTA P1 Certified Teaching Professional and has been
instructing and coaching tennis since 2002.
Elliott Datlow is in his second year as an assistant women's tennis coach and assistant director of the Duchossois Tennis Center.
His first season at W&L saw the Generals advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and finish the season with a record of 20-5 and a national ranking of No. 5.
Datlow came to W&L after serving as the head tennis professional at the Bullis Tennis Center in Potomac, Md., since 2004. In this role, he was responsible for setting up lesson plans, supervising fitness workouts and coaching top-caliber players at USTA National Tournaments.
Datlow has also served as an ATP Tour Coach since 2004, traveling to various professional tournaments.
Datlow earned a bachelor of arts degree in kinesiology from the University of Kentucky in 2004 and received a master of science degree in kinesiology from UK in 2007.
As an undergraduate, Datlow was a four-year letterwinner for the
Wildcats' men's tennis team, helping them to the "Elite Eight" of
the 2002 NCAA Division I Championship event. He served as team
captain in 2003 and received the Freshman of the Year Award.
