No. 11 Carnegie Mellon Edges No. 13 W&L Women's Tennis, 5-4

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team edged 13th-ranked Washington and Lee, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at the CMU Tennis Courts.

First-year Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) and junior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) took down first-year Minami Makino and sophomore Cori Sidell by a score of 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. However, the Tartans claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to head into singles action with a 2-1 lead.

The Blue and White posted victories at No. 1 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles to reach the final margin. Donnelly topped 16th-ranked singles player in senior Brooke Tsu to claim No. 1 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Sophomore Michelle Fleenor (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) topped Sidell, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 singles and sophomore Emily Kochard (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. She defeated sophomore Katie Lai.

With the win, Carnegie Mellon improves to 11-5 overall. W&L falls to a 7-4 overall record with the loss.

The Generals return to the court on April 2 when they host 18th-ranked Mary Washington for an 11:00 am contest.
