W&L Women's Tennis in Action at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team began competition at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, hosted by Mary Washington.

In the Championships Singles Draw, junior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta), sophomore Michelle Fleenor (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) and first-year Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) all went undefeated.

Donnelly beat Sara Finger of Muhlenberg, 6-2, 6-2, then downed Anna Scheibmeir of Swarthmore, 6-1, 6-0. Fleenor defeated Marina Selenica of Carnegie Mellon, 6-4, 6-1, and Julie Lazer of Washington College, 6-4, 6-3. Hill topped John Hopkins' Caroline Greydak by a score of 6-4, 6-3, and edged Minami Makino of Carnegie Mellon, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

In the Blue 1 Singles Draw, first-year Rachel Hicks (Mableton, Ga. / Whitefield Academy) downed Carnegie Mellon's Charlotte Deiss, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2, then went on to defeat Michelle Hung of Johns Hopkins by a score of 6-4, 7-5.

In the Blue 2 Singles Draw, sophomore Emily Kochard (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) took down Ashley Gao of Swarthmore, 6-3, 7-6, and Mary Washington's Sara Fioretti, 6-4, 6-2.

In the Blue 3 Singles Draw, senior Genny Francis (Raleigh, N.C. / Ravenscroft) topped Allie Boissonneault of Washington College by a score of, 6-3, 6-2, and defeated Maggie Manchester, 6-4, 6-2.

In the Blue 7 Singles Draw, first-year DeeDee Aeschliman (Alexandria, Va. / International School of Manila) downed Mary Washington's Sage Cole, 6-2, 6-3, and Carina Nicolaisen of Muhlenberg, 6-3, 6-3.

In the Championships Doubles Draw, Donnelly and Hill teamed up to defeat Charlotte Deiss and Abbey Hamstra of Carnegie Mellon, 8-3, and W&L duo of Fleenor and first-year Melinda Kauffman (Fuquay Varina, N.C. / North Raleigh Christian Academy) topped Swarthmore's Rachel Bronkema and Anna Scheibmeir, 8-4.  

The Generals will return to the court on Sunday, when they continue competition at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
