Men's and Women's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Honors
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2013 Academic Awards and both Washington and Lee tennis teams were among those honored for academic performance.
The W&L men were among 39 Division III tennis programs and the women’s team was one of 82 Division III squads to be recognized for having a team grade-point average of 3.2 or better.
In addition, 14 individuals were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for completing the season with a GPA of 3.5 or above.
Recently graduated players, Christina Douglas (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Manlius Pebble Hill), Sallie Griffin (Warrenton, Va. / Highland School), and Laura Simmons (Phoenix, Md. / Bryn Mawr), rising seniors Claire Cahill (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) and Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio / Hathaway Brown), and juniors Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass. / Weston), and Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C. / Ashley Hall) were honored on the women's side.
Recent graduate Hayden White (Baltimore, Md. / Towson), rising senior Vincent Kim (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood), junior Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) and sophomores Samuel Borowsky (Bala Cynwyd, Pa. / Harriton), Brian Krouskos (Alpharetta, Ga. / Mount Pisgah Christian), and Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) were recognized on the men's side.
The men concluded their season with an 18-6 overall record and captured their fourth straight conference title and 32nd in 37 years. The women finished their season with a 19-8 overall record en route to earning their 11th-consecutive ODAC title and the 23rd in program history.
