W&L's Meighan and Kirkland Notch Wins at ITA Small College Championships

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Washington and Lee women's tennis team recorded two wins on day one of the ITA National Small College Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Three Oaks Tennis Center in Fort Myers, Florida. 

Junior Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va./Flint Hill) began the day with a win in the first round of the singles competition, defeating Andrea Madrigal of La Verne, 6-2, 6-0.

Meighan then teamed up with Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) for first-round action in doubles competition, where the duo took down Jessica Bourque and Lisa Tessitore from Stevens, 6-3, 6-2.

With the wins, both Generals will advance to the semifinal round in their respective events. In singles action, Meighan will face Sofia Vega of Texas Lutheran tomorrow at 8:00 am, while Meighan and Kirkland will go up against Rebecca Siegler and Michelle Satterfield from Emory in doubles play at 12:30 pm tomorrow.
