W&L WOMEN WIN ODAC/ATLANTIC STATES SWIM MEET FOR THE SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR (2/20)

RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's swim team garnered its seventh consecutive ODAC/ Atlantic States swimming title on Sunday in Radford, Va. The Generals accumulated 842 points, outdistancing second-place Appalachian State which finished with 360 points.

On the final day of competition, the Generals recorded victories in five events to seal the win. Junior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) claimed the 1650 freestyle in a time of 18:56.19, a personal-best. Freshman Kelli Austin (Niles Mich./Niles) won the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.46, while fellow freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) emerged victorious in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:15.91. W&L also claimed the 400 medley relay in a season-best time of 3:47.76.

Sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) highlighted the competition, winning both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in NCAA provisional qualifying times. Kennedy finished the 100 in a W&L-and-ODAC-record time of 1:09.23, before hitting the wall with a time of 2:27.48 in the 200.

Finishing third in the competition was Hollins University with a team score of 306 points. The meet was the final team competition of the season for W&L.

W&L WOMEN SWIM PAST RADFORD, HOLLINS (2/3)

RADFORD, Va. -- Washington and Lee's women's swimming team swept a double dual swim meet on Thursday evening in Radford, Va., triumphing over the homestanding Highlanders by a score of 78-17, while also defeating Hollins University by a count of 82-13.

W&L swimmers claimed victories in 10 of the 11 events comprising the competition. The Generals (10-5, 4-0 ODAC) took the first two places in five of the heats. Freshman Kathleen Gibson (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) recorded three lifetime bests in the victories. W&L's victory over Hollins clinched the squad regular-season ODAC championship.

W&L will return to action at the ODAC/Atlantic States Championships on February 18-20.

W&L SWIMMING SPLITS WITH SEWANEE (1/22)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee swim teams split in a dual meet at the University of the South as the men's team defeated Sewanee, 119-73, and the women's team lost to Sewanee, 130-65.

Junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) led the way for the men's squad, finishing first in the 200 free (1:48.19) and 100 fly (52.50). Freshman Patrick Frankfurt (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) took first place honors in the 500 free (4:56.23) and 100 free (10:12.08), while senior Ken Ervin (Florence, S.C./Asheville School) won the 50 free with a time of 21.9.

The women were led by freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles), who took first place in the 100 free (56.16) and 200 free (2:01.94). Fellow classmate Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) won the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.32.

W&L will be in action again on Sunday, Jan. 30, as it travels to Mary Washington for a tri-meet with the host Eagles and Rowan College. The meet will begin at 2:00 pm.

W&L SWIM TEAMS FALL TO JOHNS HOPKINS

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Washington and Lee traveled to national-power Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, January 16, for its third dual swim meet in as many days. The Blue Jays claimed a 169-104 victory in the men's meet, while their women's team defeated the Generals by a score of 182-83.

The W&L men's team (7-4) had three individual winners in the loss. Junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) emerged victorieous in the 200 yard butterfly, swimming to victory in a time of 2:01.07. Freshman Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) claimed a win in the 500 yard freestyle (4:57.66), while senior Ken Ervin (Florence, S.C./Asheville) won the 50 yard freestyle (22.49).

On the women's side, W&L (8-4) had only one individual race winner. Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) won her sixth and seventh races of the weekend, claiming victories in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:33.16), and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.73). W&L also won the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:46.22.

W&L finally gets a much needed rest, as it will not compete until January 23, when it travels to Sewanee for a 1:00 pm meet.

W&L SWIM TEAMS LOSE TO CATHOLIC

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Washington and Lee swim teams traveled to Catholic University and came away empty-handed, as the men's team lost to the Cardinals by a score of 115-89, while the women's team lost 119-86.

The W&L men's team (7-3) was paced by freshman Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) who claimed two individual victories. Frankfort swam his way to victories in the 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle. W&L also had two other swimmers who won individual events. Junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) emerged victorious in the 200 yard butterfly, while junior Rob Little (Fort Mill, S.C./Mercersburg) won the 200 yard backstoke.

On the women's side, W&L (8-3) had only one individual race winner. Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) carried the team single-handedly, winning three races on the day. Kennedy swam her way to victories in the 200 breaststroke, the 500 freestyle, and the 100 freestyle.

W&L does not have much time to regroup, as it travels to Baltimore, Md., tomorrow, to face off against the powerhouse teams from Johns Hopkins University. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 pm.

W&L SWEEPS BUFFALO STATE IN SWIMMING

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hosted Buffalo State College in a dual swim meet in Lexington,Va., on Friday afternoon. The Generals claimed a 119-63 victory in the men's competition, while the W&L women's squad rolled to a 113-71 victory.

For the women's squad (8-2), sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) led the way with two individual wins. Kennedy placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:17.38) and the100 yard breaststroke (1:10.68). Also claiming individual victories for W&L were senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Point South) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.29), and freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.77). Meghan Woods and Jordaine Probst paced Buffalo State (2-5) with two wins apiece. Woods claimed the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.38) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:47.71), while Probst swam her way to wins in the 50 yard freestyle (26.42) and the 100 yard freestyle (58.27).

On the men's side, the Generals (7-2) were paced by junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), who claimed three victories. Hayes emerged victorious in the 200 yard IM (2:03.35), the 100 yard butterfly (55.99), and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.05). Senior Ken Ervin (Florence, S.C./Asheville School) claimed both the 50 yard freestyle (22.68), and the 100 yard freestyle (50.52). Other winners for the Generals were freshmen Zach Fake (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.62), and Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) in the 500 yard freestyle (4:58.55). The lone victory for the Bengals (3-3) came from Greg Stone in the 100 yard backstroke (57.66).

Both W&L squads will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Catholic University for a 2:00 pm dual meet.

W&L SWEEPS HARTWICK IN SWIMMING

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hosted Hartwick College in a modified dual relay swim meet in Lexington, Va., on Saturday morning. The Generals claimed a close 42-39 victory in the men's competition, while the W&L women's squad rolled to a 52-24 win.

The W&L women's squad (7-2) claimed victories in eight of the nine relays on the day. W&L opened the meet with a win in the 300-yard butterfly relay (3:21.74), before claiming victories in the 300-yard backstroke relay (3:17.27), 300-yard breaststroke relay (3:42.66), 800-yard freestyle relay (8:33.05), 500-yard freestyle relay (5:11.41), 200-yard medley relay (2:00.43), 200-yard free relay (1:48.47), and the 1200-yard free relay (13:54.43). Hartwick (2-4) claimed its lone victory in the 400-yard medley relay (4:52.00).

On the men's side, the outcome of the meet was not decided until the Generals claimed a win in the final relay. W&L (6-2) swam its way to wins in the 300-yard butterfly relay (2:49.48), 300-yard backstroke relay (2:58.01), 800-yard freestyle relay (7:38.67), 500-yard freestyle relay (4:30.54), 200-yard medley relay (1:43.10), 1200-yard free relay (12:41.78), and the 400-yard medley relay (3:54.07). Hartwick (4-2) notched wins in the 300-yard breaststroke relay (3:42.66), and the 200-yard free relay (1:48.47).

Both W&L squads will return to action when they host Buffalo State on Friday, January 14 in the Cy Twombly Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.

W&L SWIM TEAMS POST VICTORIES OVER VMI AND SWEET BRIAR

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee swim teams hosted a pair of dual meets on Wednesday afternoon in the Cy Twombly Pool. The men's team swam past their cross-town rivals from VMI by a score of 121-79, while the women's squad defeated Sweet Briar College. 147-91.

The W&L men's team was paced by freshman Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) who claimed two individual victories. Frankfort swam his way to victories in the 200 yard IM (2:03.81) and the 100 yard backstroke (57.11). W&L also had three other swimmers who won individual events. Junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) emerged victorious in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:11.07. Junior Mike Miraglia (Rockville, Md./Rockville). won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:53.04, while freshman Zack Fake (Upper Saddle River N.J./Northern Highlands) won the 100 yard freestyle in 50.38. The W&L men also claimed wins in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.09) and 200 yard medley relay (1:32.35).

On the women's side, W&L had eight individual winners. Sophomore Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) paced the team with wins in the 200 yard freestyle (2:05.96) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:55.01). Single event winners for W&L were sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) in the100-yard breaststroke (1:11.05), freshman Jennifer Fallon (Boerne, Texas/Boerne) in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:28.49), senior Lezael Haynes (St. Augustine Trinidad/St. Augustine Girls) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.14), sophomore Maggie Fagan (Manhasset, N.Y./Sacred Heart) in the 200 yard butterfly (2:35.47), sophomore Caitlin FitzRandolph (Canton, N.Y./H.C. Williams) in the 50 yard freestyle (26.94), freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) in the 100 yard freestyle (57.10), and senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Pt. South) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:29.76). W&L also won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 2:00.97.

Both W&L squads will break for the holidays before returning to the pool against Hartwick on January 8th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.

W&L TOPS WILDCATS IN SWIMMING, 116-60

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee's women's swimming team claimed victories in seven of nine individual races en route to a 116-60 triumph over Randolph-Macon WomanÕs College on Wednesday night in Lexington, Va.

The Generals started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:01.44. They then proceeded to take the first seven individual events before the Wildcats claimed a win. No swimmer for W&L tallied more than one victory on the day. The seven individual winners for W&L were freshman Michelle Moore (Katy, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:23.87), junior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.02), sophomore Caitlin FitzRandolph (Canton, N.Y./H.C. Williams) in the 50-yard freestyle (26.79), freshman Katie Kolle (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) in the 200-yard IM (2:25.64), freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.48), freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) in the 100-yard freestyle (57.06), and senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pt. South) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.17).

Michelle Proses claimed both individual victories for the Wildcats, winning the 500-yard freestyle (6:24.07) and the 200-yard breaststroke (3:24.90). RMWC also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:58.90.

With the win, W&L improves to 5-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 1-4. The Generals return to the pool on December 8th, when they host ODAC member Sweet Briar College at 7:00 pm.

W&L SWIMMERS COMPETE AGAINST SWARTHMORE AND F&M (11/21)

SWARTHMORE AND LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee swim teams made their first road trips of the season this past weekend, traveling to Swarthmore College and Franklin and Marshall College for dual swim meets on November 20 and 21. In the meet against Swarthmore, the W&L men claimed a 130-69 victory while the women lost by a count of 92-113. The outcomes were reversed against F&M, with the W&L women claiming a 112-93 win and the men losing by only one point, 101-102.

For the women's squad against Swarthmore, sophomore Katie Kennedy set a new school record in the 200 breaststroke, a mark she has already broken twice this season. Kennedy set the record by posting a time of 2:27.39. She also claimed a victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:26.73. Freshman Blair Huffman also claimed a victory in the 200 IM (2:20.54) for the women's team in the loss.

W&L's men won 10 of the 11 individual events to swim past the Garnet Tide in a rout. Junor Colin Hayes highlighted the meet, winning the 200 yard buttefly in a time of 1:56.35. With the win, Hayes also provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet to be held at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

In the meet against F&M, W&L's women were paced once again by Huffman, who won both the 400 IM (4:52.14) and the 100 fly (1:03.48). Kelli Austin won both the 50 (26.17) and 100 (56.33) freestyle events. Also winning individual events were Kennedy in the 1000 free (11:21.54), senior Lauren Beckenhauer in the 100 back (1:04.14), and junior Laura Ingoldsby in the 500 free (5:33.40).

W&L's men pushed F&M to the limit, despite falling by one point. Hayes won two events, claiming victories in the 200 freestyle (1:46.56) and the 100 butterfly (51.80). Senior Ken Ervin won both the 50 (21.75) and 100 (47.90) freestyle events, and freshman Patrick Frankfort claimed the 500 free (4:48.66).

W&L SPLITS WITH GETTYSBURG IN SWIMMING (11/14)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hosted Gettysburg College in a dual swim meet on Sunday afternoon. The Generals claimed a 137-106 upset victory in the men's competition, while the W&L women's squad suffered its first loss of the season by a score of 142-100.

The W&L men's team was paced by freshman Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) who claimed three individual victories. Frankfort swam his way to victories in the 400 yard IM (4:29.41), 100 yard backstroke (56.89), and the 500 yard freestyle (4:53.15). W&L also had two double-winners in junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and junior Mike Miraglia (Rockville, Md./Rockville). Hayes claimed wins in the 200 yard butterfly (2:01.15) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.32). Other individual winners for the Generals were senior Ken Ervin (Florence, S.C./Asheville School) in the 50-yard freestyle (22.32) and junior Rob Little (Fort Mill, S.C./Mercersburg Academy) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.99). The W&L men also claimed wins in both the 200-freestyle relay (1:30.50) and 200-yard medley relay (1:41.78). On the day, W&L set nine new meet records in the men's competition.

For the women's squad, sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) claimed two victories. Kennedy won the100-yard breaststroke (1:09.54) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.07). Also winning events for the women's team were freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross), freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles), and senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Pt. South). Huffman won the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.74), Austin swam her way to a win in the 100-yard freestyle (56.59), and Beckenhauer claimed the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.72).

Both W&L squads will return to action when they travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday, November 20, to take on the Garnet Tide. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee swim teams hosted Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon. The Generals claimed a 95-44 victory in the men's competition, while the W&L women's squad improved to 3-0 on the season with a 124-72 win.

For the women's squad, sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran), freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross), and freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) led the way with two wins apiece. Kennedy placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:20.57) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:32.78). Huffman claimed the 200 yard butterfly (2:20:29) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:21.88), and Austin won the 200 yard freestyle (2:05.00) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:42.06). W&L's 200 medley relay team also swam its way to a victory with a time of 1:59.87.

On the men's side, the Generals (2-1) were paced by sophomore Rick Black (Indiana, Pa./Marion Center) who won both the 100 yard freestyle (51.14) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:26.22). Freshman Pat Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) won the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.82), junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) claimed the 200 yard IM (2:09.87), and freshman Zach Fake (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) won the 200 yard freestyle (1:55.17). The W&L men also won the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 1:43.97.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hosted Marymount University in a dual swim meet in Lexington,Va., on Saturday afternoon. The Generals claimed a 124-42 victory in the men's competition, while the W&L women's squad escaped with a 109-74 victory.

For the women's squad, sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) and junior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) led the way with two wins apiece. Kennedy placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:19.77) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:28.77). Her time in the 200 breast was a new W&L school record and surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark for this season. Ingoldsby claimed the 200 yard freestyle (2:05.31) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:36.51). Also claiming an individual victory for W&L was senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Point South) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.43). W&L's 400 medley relay team also swam its way to a victory with a time of 4:15.45.

On the men's side, the Generals were paced by freshman Pat Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), who claimed two victories each for W&L. Frankfort placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:06.67) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:07.47). Hayes claimed the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.76) and the 200 yard butterfly (2:05.00). LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hosted Transylvania University in a dual swim meet in Lexington,Va., on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers claimed a 138-122 victory in the men's competition, but the W&L women's squad escaped with a 154-108 victory.

For the women's squad, freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) and sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) led the way with three wins apiece. Other winners for the Generals were senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pt. South), freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles), and junior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child). W&L's 200 free relay team also swam its way to a victory with a time of 1:47.33.

On the men's side, the Generals were paced by freshman Pat Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), who won three events.
