RICHMOND, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team finished in first out of 10 teams with a total of 939.50 points at the Randolph-Macon Invitational at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center on Saturday evening.
Washington College took second with 471 points, while Franklin & Marshall finished with 461 to take third. Howard University finished fourth with 382.50 and host Randolph-Macon rounded out the Top 5 with 332 points
The 200-yard free relay of first-year Ali MacQueen (Memphis, Tenn. / St. Mary's Episcopal School), junior Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo), senior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and sophomore Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School) finished first with a time of 1:38.31, which broke a new meet record.
First-year Laura Bruce (New Orleans, La. / Academy of the Sacred Heart) placed first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:06.69, which set a new W&L record. First-year Kelly Amar (Mount Vernon, N.Y. / The Ursuline School) placed second (2:07.26), while first-year Katherine Degner (Virginia Beach, Va. / Frank W. Cox) took third (2:09.69) and Holmes finished fourth (2:11.24).
Chancey touched the wall in 52.66 to take first in the 100-yard free, which set a new meet record, while MacQueen finished second in a time of 53.01 and Holmes took fifth with a time of 54.15.
In the 200-yard IM, Amar (2:09.90) and Ecleberry (2:13.53) placed second and fifth respectively. In the 50-yard freestyle, McQueen set a new meet record, while taking first with a time of 24.63, followed by Chancey in second with a time of 24.69, and Fuller in fourth (24.93).
In the 200-yard breast, first-year Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington) finished first with a time of 2:23.10 and Ecleberry took fourth with a time of 2:29.17. Hageboeck also took second in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:05.67.
Senior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) took first in the 100-yard back and set a new meet record in a time of 57.17, while first-year Ashley Johnston (Gainesville, Ga. / North Hall) placed third (59.54). In the 400-yard IM, Amar and Ecleberry finished third and fourth with times of 4:41.09 and 4:41.69.
MacQueen placed first in the 100-yard fly and set a new meet record with a time of 55.93, while Rollo finished second in 57.63. Bruce placed third with 58.19 and Fuller finished fifth with a time of 59.51.
In the 200-yard free, Chancey finished first and set a new meet record with a time of 1:53.90, followed by Holmes who took second (1:54.45). Jordan Watson (Fayetteville, Ga. / Whitewater) touched the wall in 1:58.11 to take fourth.
Fuller, Amar, Watson and Holmes swam on the winning 800-yard free relay that set a new meet record with a time of 7:46.32.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the squad of Rollo, Hageboeck, MacQueen and Chancey took first with a time of 1:47.81, while MacQueen, Fuller, Holmes and Chancey touched the wall in 3:32.12 to take first in the 400-yard free relay.
W&L returns to the pool on January 7, when it hosts Bridgewater and Ferrum at 1:00 pm.
