W&L Women's Swimming Sets Three Records at ODAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team set two ODAC records and a school record to sit in first place with 275 points after day one of competition at the ODAC Championships on Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Emory & Henry recorded 148 points for second place after day one competition and Randolph-Macon is third with 133 points. Sweet Briar (96), Bridgewater (86), Greensboro (76), Notre Dame of Maryland (53), Hollins (44) and Guilford (40) wrap up the team results.

First-years Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial), Natalie Brendsel (Oakton, Va. / Flint Hill), along with sophomore Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) and senior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive) teamed up to start the meet off strong with a first place finish in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.57.

First-year Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) swam an ODAC Championship meet-record time of 5:08.49 in the 500 free to take first place. The previous time was 5:09.25 that was set by Margaret Hoehl from W&L in 1999.

Sophomore Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) also set a new record in the 200 IM after she placed first in a time of 2:09.28. Her time was good for a new ODAC and ODAC Championships record. Emma Phillips set the previous fastest time when she finished in a time of 2:09.62 in 2012.

Brendsel, sophomores Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and Swabb along with junior Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) teamed up to take second in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:56.17. That time was also good for a new school record. Foster led off the relay and set an ODAC and school record, while also posting an NCAA provisional time.
