W&L Women's Swimming Sits in Third Place at Wingate Invitational
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee women's swim team picked up 250 points on day one of the Wingate Invitational to place third behind Gardner-Webb (402.5) and Wingate (467).
First-year Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) led the Generals, with the highest finish of the day, touching the wall in a time of 5:10.81 to take fourth place in the 500 free.
Senior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md. / Saint Paul's) had a sixth place finish in the 200 fly, clocking in at 2:16.52, while First-year Haley Rademann (Folsom, Calif. / St. Francis) finished just behind Kasoff in seventh place (2:!7.82). Kasoff also placed 12th in the 200 IM (2:17.11).
Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive) picked up a Top 10 finished, touching the wall in a time of 56.40 to claim 10th place in the 100 free, while Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) placed eighth in the 100 breast in a time of 1:12.20. Junior Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) placed 12th in the 200 back (2:16.56).
The 400 medley relay A team had a good outing, placing sixth out of 11 teams in a time of 4:10.97, while the 200 free relay A team placed third (1:43.01) out of nine teams.
The women will be back in ation on Saturday for day two of the invitational. The meet is set to start at 7:30 pm.
