ASHLAND, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team recorded 11 first place finishes en route to a 167-88 victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at the Estes Aquatic Center.
The Generals swept the Top 3 places in three events on the day. In the 1000 free, first-year Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) was first in a time of 10:50.58, junior Sydney Gay (Henrico, Va./Henrico) was second (11:37.96) and sophomore Lindsey Gilbert (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) was third (12:00.32).
The 200 fly featured senior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) in first place (2:17.49), sophomore Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) in second (2:19.94) and junior Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) taking third place (2:21.59).
In the 100 fly, Kasoff led the Top 3 with a time of 1:02.02 for first place. Murphy finished second in 1:04.11 and senior Rebecca Lawrence (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) touched in at third (1:06.43).
Other first-place performances include Gay touching the wall in 5:38.53 in the 500 free, junior Mary Gabe (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) in the 200 breast (2:39.83), Hamp in the 200 back (2:19.75), sophomore Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 100 breast (1:14.19), sophomore Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) in the 100 back (1:02.76) and senior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive) taking the top spot in the 200 free in a time of 2:03.04.
The Generals return to the pool on November 1, when they compete at the Wingate Invitational at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
