W&L Women's Swimming Sets Two Records at ODAC Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team set two school records and sits in first place with 294 points after day one of competition at the ODAC Championships on Friday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.
Randolph-Macon recorded 140 points for second place after day one competition and Emory & Henry is third with 132 points. Bridgewater (111), Greensboro (82), Notre Dame of Maryland (63), Sweet Briar (54), Hollins (50) and Guilford (36) wrap up the team results.
First-year Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) swam a school-record time of 2:09.93 in the 200 IM to take first place. She then teamed up with senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School), junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) and first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) to win the 200 free relay in a school, ODAC and championship meet record time of 1:37.15.
In the 500 free, senior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) claimed first place, touching the wall in 5:12.29. Brassfield and Swabb joined sophomore Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) in the 400 medley relay to take the team's final win of the day.
Five others placed in the top eight behind Swabb in the 200 IM. Hamp finished third with a time of 2:13.51, junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) touched the wall in fourth (2:13.76) and first-year Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) clocked in at 2:14.86 for fifth. Foster recorded a sixth-place showing (2:15.69) and senior Brittany Ross (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) registered 2:17.45 for seventh.
Brassfield, Schaffer and Hardy also notched top times in the 50 free. With a time of 24.51, Brassfield took second place, while Schaffer was third (24.75) and Hardy finished fourth (24.88).
Senior Colleen Moore (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) placed fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:20.00. First-year Grace Duncan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) claimed sixth in 5:23.07 and sophomore Sydney Gay (Henrico, Va./Henrico) closed out the pack with a seventh-place time of 5:27.13.
The Generals return to the pool for day two of the ODAC Championships on Saturday morning. Preliminary rounds are set to begin at 10:00 am.
