FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its Players of the Week for the week ending December 2 and Washington and Lee first-year Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was named the Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Swabb led the Generals with six event wins, including three school records, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational last weekend. She teamed up with junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), sophomore Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) in the 400 medley relay to finish in a school record and winning time of 4:03.53. Then Swabb joined first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) and Hardy in the 200 free relay to register another record-breaking time of 1:40.28 to win the event. Swabb also set a school record in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:42.06.
Swabb notched two more individual event wins in the 200 IM (2:13.16) and 100 breast (1:10.63). She also helped the 800 free relay clock in at 7:55.40 for a victory with junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's), Hardy and Brassfield.
The swimming team is on break now for the holidays and returns to the pool on January 12, when it hosts Bridgewater. Action is set to begin at 2:00 pm.
