CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team finished competition at the Wingate Quad meet to place fourth on Saturday afternoon at the Mecklenburg Aquatics Center. Gardner Webb recorded 905.5 points in the two-day competition to place first.
Queens was second with 736.5 points, Wingate finished third with 714 points, W&L registered 379 points for fourth and Catawba tallied 321 points for fifth place.
The Generals placed three in the top-half of the field in the 50 free, led by first-year Bentley Boldt (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) registering a seventh-place performance in a time of 25.08. Senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) finished eighth (25.14) and first-year Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) touched in 14th (25.55).
Four others notched Top 10 times on the day. Sophomore Sydney Gay (Henrico, Va./Henrico) claimed seventh place in the 100 free, clocking in at 11:21.30.
Sophomore Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) took eighth in the 100 fly (1:00.95), junior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) finished 10th in the 200 free (2:00.68) and junior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) placed 10th in the 400 IM (4:52.08).
The 400 free relay finished in fourth place after timing in at 3:40.17 and the 200 medley relay placed seventh in a time of 1:53.68.
Other top performances included an 11th-place finish in the 200 breast by sophomore Hannah Melkun (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) with a time of 2:34.61 and first-year Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) placing 16th in the 100 back (1:02.68).
W&L returns to the pool on November 17, when it travels to Carnegie Mellon to face CMU, Rochester and Alleghany, set to begin at 11:00 am.
