Giblin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./North Highlands Reg.) used her third goal
of the season to propel the Washington and Lee women's soccer team
past Lynchburg, 1-0, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on
Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after play resumed in the second half, W&L (4-0, 3-0)
freshman forward Anne Wilshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) blasted a
shot off Hornet (3-3-2, 1-1) keeper Erin Johnson (Davidsville,
Md./South River). The ensuing rebound bounced uncontrolled around
the box, and off several defenders before Giblin collected it, and
drove it to the left post.
The score was all that was needed to give the Generals their
second straight decision over Lynchburg. Washington and Lee
defeated the Hornets in the 2002 ODAC Championship match, besting
them 5-4 on penalty kicks after battling to a 0-0 draw in field
play.
In goal, junior Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) served
all 90 minutes for the Generals. She recorded three saves. Johnson
made one save for Lynchburg in the loss.
The Hornets held a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 5-2 advantage in
corner kicks.
The Generals return to action Tuesday, Sept. 23, when they travel
to Hollins. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
