W&L FALLS IN TRIPLE OVERTIME AT ODAC TOURNAMENT FINALS (10/28)

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior midfielder Heather Kirby scored at the 133:50 mark in the third overtime as Lynchburg handed Washington and Lee a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat in the finals of the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The game-winning goal deflected off a W&L defender and got by senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill). Harris kept the Generals in the game the entire day by making 20 saves.

Freshman forward Susannah Hewlett (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) notched the game's first goal at the 6:38 mark off an assist from Jenny Thomas (High Point, N.C./High Point Central).

Lynchburg fought back in the 40th minute on a goal from Kacey Crabbe with an assist from Jana Thoma.

The game then remained scoreless for 94 minutes, setting up Kirby's heroics. Lynchburg (18-3-2) outshot W&L, 36-9. The Hornets also attempted 19 corner kicks to W&L's one.

For their efforts in the ODAC tournament, junior Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) and seniors Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Harris were named to the all-tournament team.

Washington and Lee finished the season with a record of 12-6.

W&L DEFEATS MACON, 4-1, TO ADVANCE TO ODAC FINALS (10/27)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman forward Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) scored two goals and freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac School) added one goal and an assist to lead third seeded Washington and Lee to a 4-1 win over seventh seeded Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinals on Friday afternoon.

Randolph-Macon (11-9) got on the board first as sophomore Allison Picarde scored an unassisted goal at the 26:13 mark.

The Generals (12-5) answered at the 31:41 mark as Coleman scored off an assist by senior midfielder Liz Olson (Brookfield, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee). The Generals added the game-winner 6:44 later as junior midfielder Drew Powers (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) scored off a feed from senior back Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson).

Marcoux upped the W&L lead to 3-1 with an unassisted goal at the 57:37 mark and assisted on Coleman's second goal with 64:53 gone-by.

Senior Lauren Harris notched two saves in goal for the Generals.

Washington and Lee will play tournament host and No. 1 seed Lynchburg on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the finals.

W&L MOVES TO SEMIFINALS WITH DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN (10/24)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) scored 1:35 into the second overtime off an assist by sophomore forward Ruth-Hill Yielding (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) to give Washington and Lee a 2-1 victory in the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior fullback Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) notched her first goal of the season at the 48:40 mark to put the Generals on top 1-0.

Eastern Mennonite (11-7) tied the score at the 76:30 mark on a goal by freshman forward Ellie Lind (Durban, South Africa/Three Rivers).

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made four saves for Washington and Lee, while freshman goalkeeper Rochelle Yoder (Normal, Ill./Normal Community West) stopped 14 shots for the Royals.

Washington and Lee (11-5) will travel to Lynchburg, Va., on Friday afternoon to take on Randolph-Macon in the semifinal round of the ODAC Tournament. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNS ROANOKE, 1-0 (10/21)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) scored a goal off an assist by freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac School) at the 78:54 mark to lift Washington and Lee to a 1-0 win over Roanoke in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (10-5, 8-3) outshot Roanoke on the day, 15-11, and took six corner kicks as opposed to just four for the Maroons (10-6-1, 8-2-1).

Senior Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) posted eight saves in goal for the Generals, while senior Kate Enright (Dover, Del./Dover) notched six saves for Roanoke.

W&L will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts either Randolph-Macon or Eastern Mennonite in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS FERRUM, 5-1 (10/18)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) tallied a goal and three assists in the second half to lead Washington and Lee to a 5-1 victory over Ferrum in women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) started the scoring for the Generals at the 54:06 mark with an assist from Marcoux.

Ferrum (3-8) fought back three minutes later with a goal from Mary Jennette to tie the score at 1-1. Marcoux then scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute off a pass from Bidwell.

Bidwell added a goal and two assists, while sophomore forward Ruth-Hill Yielding (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) scored two late second half goals for W&L (9-5).

Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Roanoke at 11:00 am in the final ODAC regular-season contest for both squads.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT CARNEGIE MELLON, 1-0 (10/14)

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Carnegie Mellon used a late second half goal by Lauren Taylor to snap Washington and Lee's five-game winning streak, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

Taylor scored at the 81:24 mark off an assist from Erica Anderson to give the Tartans (6-7-1) the victory. Washington and Lee (8-5) was outshot by the Carnegie Mellon, 13-4.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made five saves in the loss.

The Generals will return home to face Ferrum on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER BLANKS HOLLINS, 6-0 (10/11)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshmen forwards Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) and Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) scored two goals each to lead Washington and Lee to a 6-0 shutout of Hollins on Wednesday afternoon in ODAC women's soccer action.

Coleman and Marcoux both tallied goals in the first eight minutes to give the Generals a 2-0 lead. Sophomore forward Jenny Thomas (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) upped the W&L lead to 3-0 with a goal at the 19:54 mark. Coleman then gave the Generals a four-goal lead with her second goal of the half in the 32nd minute.

Junior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) and Marcoux each netted second half goals for W&L (8-4, 7-3 ODAC).

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made two saves two collect her fifth shutout of the season. Senior goalkeeper Gwynna Smith made 16 saves in the loss for Hollins (4-9, 2-9 ODAC).

The Generals will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday afternoon to take on Carnegie Mellon University. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER ROLLS OVER GUILFORD, 10-1 (10/7)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Three Generals scored two goals each to lead Washington and Lee to a 10-1 rout of Guilford on Saturday afternoon in ODAC women's soccer action.

Freshmen forwards Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) and Susannah Hewlett (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) and sophomore forward Ruth-Hill Yielding (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) all netted two goals for W&L. Yielding also tallied an assist.

Sophomore forward Jenny Thomas (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) added a goal and an assist in the victory.

The Generals took a 3-0 lead on Guilford (4-10-1, 3-6 ODAC) in the first half with goals by Marcoux, Yielding and junior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia).

Washington and Lee (7-4, 6-3 ODAC) will host Hollins on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER BLANKS EMORY & HENRY, 1-0 (10/3)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman forward Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) scored at the 76:51 mark to give Washington and Lee a 1-0 victory over Emory & Henry in ODAC women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.

The game's only goal came after senior back Sam Garbisch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) fired a shot on net that hit the post and was redirected home by Coleman.

W&L (6-4, 5-3 ODAC) outshot the Wasps, 46-0. Emory & Henry (2-8, 1-5) goalkeeper Melissa Berry (Delran, N.J./Delran) made 23 saves in the losing cause.

Washington and Lee will host Guilford on Saturday afternoon with the game time set for 3:30 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 2-1 (9/30)

NORFOLK, Va. -- Freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute as Washington and Lee rallied to defeat Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, in ODAC women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

W&L (5-4, 4-3 ODAC) scored both goals in the second half to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Melanie Braswell started the scoring for Virginia Wesleyan (4-5, 4-2 ODAC) at the 41:14 mark. Sophomore fullback Lindsey Duran (Colleyville, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) tied the contest with her third goal of the season at the 72:08 mark. Marcoux ended the scoring with her goal just over four minutes later.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) picked up her fifth victory of the season by making nine saves.

The Generals return to action on Tuesday as they host Emory & Henry in an ODAC contest at 4:00 pm.

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- Four different Generals scored two goals to help lead Washington and Lee to a 9-0 rout of Sweet Briar (1-10, 0-5 ODAC) on Wednesday afternoon in ODAC women's soccer action.

Junior midfielder Drew Powers (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School), sophomore forward Jennifer Thomas (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) and freshman forwards Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) and Susannah Hewlett (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) all notched two goals. Freshman forward Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) also tallied her first collegiate goal.

Marcoux also added two assists to lead W&L with a team-high six points.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made three saves to collect her third shutout of the season. The Generals outshot Sweet Briar, 37-4.

Washington and Lee (4-4, 3-3 ODAC) will return to action on Saturday, ending its five-game road swing with a trip to Norfolk, Va., to take on Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LYNCHBURG, 5-0 (9/24)

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision against Lynchburg College in ODAC women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

Lynchburg (8-2, 5-0 ODAC) scored three goals in the first 26 mintues and outshot the Generals, 32-1. Senior midfielder Kristen Kowit scored three goals and tallied one assist to lead the Hornets.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made 13 saves in the loss for the Generals.

W&L (3-4, 2-3 ODAC) will travel to Sweet Briar, Va., on Wednesday to take on Sweet Briar at 4:30 pm.

Freshman forward Susannah Hewlett (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) started the scoring at the 56:05 mark off a pass from sophomore forward Jennifer Thomas (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) to give W&L a 1-0 lead.

Bidwell notched her first goal of the game at the 59:52 mark with assists from Hewlett and freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) to give the Generals a 2-0 lead. Bidwell finished the scoring in the 86th minute with an unassisted goal.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) collected her second shutout of the season by making five saves. The Generals outshot the Wildcats, 33-9.

Washington and Lee will travel to Lynchburg, Va. tomorrow afternoon for a 1:00 pm matchup with Lynchburg College.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES SECOND STRAIGHT (9/19)

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team dropped its second straight ODAC contest on Tuesday afternoon at Bridgewater College, 1-0.

Sarah Pritchett scored an unassisted goal at the 43:23 mark to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. That lead would stand behind goalkeeper Julianne Blevins who stopped all 14 shots on goal.

W&L outshot Bridgewater 23-11. Junior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) led W&L with five shots.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made seven saves for the Generals.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES IN OVERTIME, 2-1 (9/16)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior midfielder Mindi Nolt (New Holland, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) scored on a penalty kick with 2:22 remaining in overtime to give Eastern Mennonite a 2-1 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

The game-winner by Nolt was setup by a foul called near the W&L goal on a rush by sophomore forward Jennifer Morey (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata).

Freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) started the scoring for W&L at the 1:35 mark with a deflection off a throw-in from sophomore forward Jennifer Thomas (High Point, N.C./High Point Central).

The Royals tied the game at the 83:12 mark after freshman forward Ellie Lind (Durban, South Africa/Three Rivers) notched her seventh goal of the season on a pass from junior midfielder Deborah Good (Washington, D.C./Lancaster Mennonite).

Freshman goalkeeper Rochelle Yoder (Normal, Ill./Normal Comm. West) picked up her second straight victory for Eastern Mennonite by making 14 saves. Senior Lauren Harris took the loss for the Generals. Harris notched seven saves.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Bridgewater College. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.

GENERALS WOMEN'S SOCCER WIN IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME, 2-1 (9/13)

Lexington, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore defender Lindsey Duran (Colleyville, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) scored with seven seconds remaining in double-overtime to give W&L a 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon in ODAC women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Duran hustled up from her defensive back position and fired a long range shot that beat Randolph-Macon freshman goalkeeper Ashley Seal (Richmond, Va./Collegiate). It was Duran's second goal of the season.

W&L freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C/The Potmac School) started the scoring at the 47:30 mark with an unassisted goal. Marcoux's tally was her fourth of the season.

Randolph-Macon's goal came at the 67:00 mark, when senior forward Cheryl Dickter (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) took a feed from freshman midfielder Leanna Van Osten (Winchester, Va./Sherando) off a free kick and fired home the game-tying goal.

Duran's game-winner gave the win to senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill), who stopped 11 shots. Harris moves to 2-1 on the season.

Washington and Lee outshot the Yellow Jackets, 34-15.

The Generals will host Eastern Mennonite on Saturday at 11:00 am.

GENERALS PICK UP FIRST VICTORY, 10-0 (9/10)

Sewanee, Tenn. -- Eight Generals scored goals as the Washington and Lee University women's soccer team gathered their first victory of the season with a 10-0 victory over Meredith at the Sewanee Tournament.

Freshman forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) led the way for W&L (1-1) with three goals on the day. She started the scoring at the 3:20 mark with her first collegiate goal off assists by senior Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and freshman Susannah Hewlett (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville).

Sophomore midfielder Ruth Hill Yeilding (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) collected W&L's third goal to go along with two assists. Senior Courtney Nolan (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) also had a goal and an assist.

Freshman Amy Blakeway (San Antonio, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) and Sara Jurkowsky (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) notched their first collegiate goals in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) stopped all four shots in the net to get her first shutout of the season and 22nd in her career. W&L outshot Meredith (0-2) 46-4.

Emory College won the tournament with a record of 2-0 after defeating Sewanee 2-0 on Sunday.

Senior Liz Olson (Brookfield, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee), junior Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia), and Marcoux were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13, vs. Randolph-Macon in both the home opener and the beginning of Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. Game time is set for 4:00 pm on the Liberty Hall Fields.

GENERALS FALL TO EMORY, 4-1 (9/9)

Sewanee, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team lost its season-opener on Saturday afternoon to Emory University, 4-1, at the Sewanee Tournament.

Emory jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first 24 minutes of the contest on goals by Jayme Yarow, Amber Poe and Caroline Hoit.

W&L came right back with an unassisted goal from freshman forward Susannah Hewlett (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) at the 25:19 mark. Emory goalkeeper Andrea Pawliczak held W&L scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Generals (0-1) were outshot by Emory 24-13. Hewlett and senior forward Shana Levine (Hudson, Oh./Hudson) led W&L with three shots each.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Oh./Indian Hill) recorded 20 saves for the Generals.

The Generals will look to regroup against Meredith College on Sunday at 11:00 am in the second round of the tournament.
