LEXINGTON, Va. – The top-seeded Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeated ninth-seeded Randolph, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (13-3-1) scored four goals in the first half, with two coming from sophomore midfielder Megan Engeland (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury).
Engeland got the Blue and White on the board in the 17th minute, when she found the back of the net off of a cross from sophomore forward Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School). Engeland scored her second goal of the game less than 10 minutes later, after she collected the ball in the box and fired it past Randolph (6-11-1) junior keeper Stephanie Quirk.
Senior defender Ashley Hogan (North Chesterfield, Va. / Monacan) played the ball through the inside the box and found the feet of senior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) who drilled it into the top corner of the net in the 36th minute to make it 3-0.
Hogan would give W&L its fourth goal of the half at the 41:16 mark after she received a cross into the six-yard box from first-year forward Kelsey Anderson (Alexandria, Va. / Episcopal).
Junior defender Caroline Hahn (Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) scored the final tally of the contest in the 80th minute when she played a shot into the low corner of the goal off of a cross from sophomore midfielder Danielle Spickard (Valencia, Calif. / William S. Hart).
Quirk made 12 saves for the WildCats in 90 minutes of action.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host the victor of No. 4 Shenandoah vs. No. 5 Roanoke in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament with the game time to be determined.
